CACTUS

A Computational Framework for Generating Realistic White MatterMicrostructure Substrates

Welcome to the Computational Axonal Configurator for Tailored and Ultradense Substrates (CACTUS) webpage!

CACTUS is a powerful tool that enables the generation of  synthetic fibres with rich microstructure characteristics, such as:

single-fibre populations, bundle crossings, bundle angular dispersion, non-cylindrical fibres, non-constant longitudinal fibre-radii, myelin compartments, target radii distribution, tortuous surfaces, target packing density, myelin compartments and more.

Developed as a novel numerical phantom generator for white matter substrates, CACTUS solves the high-density packing problem and can achieve up to 95% intracellular volume fractions. Our tool is highly customizable, making it ideal for studying white matter microstructure with Monte Carlo Simulations for DW-MRI. On this page, we will provide a glance at some of the many CACTUS substrates.
